If there's one thing this year's Readers Digest Trusted Brands have in common, it's this: they earned it the hard way. Canadians consumers don't give it up for just any brand. We heard it time and time again: Canadians are discerning and savvy, they know what they need and they value a brand that delivers on its promises. And sure enough, each of our winning brands, from Toyota to Kellogg's, Sun Life Financial to Sensodyne, showed us just how hard they've worked to win this designation.
So how do they do it? How do they win Canadians' trust and, even more important, how
do they keep it? How do they demonstrate integrity? And how do they stay true to their
essence? Well, they stay humble, for starters. No evidence of entitlement here, no assumptions
made: these brands take nothing for granted. What we learned from our 2011 Trusted
Brands is that Canadians don't want to be inundated with information because they simply
don't have the time. They want the facts and they want proof that a brand delivers. We
learned that transparency is essential for a brand to succeed because if it doesn't, you can
be sure that word will spread – social media will take care of that. We found out that brands
must be environmentally responsible to win Canadians' trust. They have to push boundaries
and be innovative. They have to be truthful and authentic. And of course finally, they must
