SWEEPSTAKES INFORMATION
There are 3 important stages in the Reader's Digest 74th National Sweepstakes.THE READER'S DIGEST 74th NATIONAL SWEEPSTAKES
Official Rules
1. SPONSOR
The Reader's Digest 74th National Sweepstakes offers a series of prizes
and is presented in conjunction with various product offers occasionally
sponsored by The Reader's Digest Association (Canada) ULC
(hereinafter RD) affiliated companies, and may at times be presented in
conjunction with product offers from other organizations in partnership
with RD.
2. HOW TO ENTER
2.1 NO PURCHASE OR ENTRY FEES ARE NECESSARY TO
ENTER OR TO WIN.
2.2 Computer-generated entry number(s) will be randomly
assigned to each participation. Each number assigned is
personal and each has a limited valid period. For this reason,
each promotion has its own reply deadline date. These dates
must be respected in order for to be eligible to the
Sweepstakes. An individual may enter as many times as given
the opportunity and each participation holds sweepstakes
numbers for the different prizes offered, during the complete
Sweepstakes period. Each entry has a fair and equal chance to
win.
2.3 Participants must return the complete entry in accordance with
instructions AND entry deadlines stated in the relevant
promotional material.
2.4 For all entries, the date of receipt will constitute entry eligibility
to the Sweepstakes.
2.5 Reproduction of entries will not be accepted.
2.6 Entry in the 74th Sweepstakes is usually accessible by invitation.
However, those who wish to request an additional entry number
for a chance to win the $250,000.00 Grand Prize may do so by
writing to: P.O. Box 16700, Station Westmount, Westmount,
Québec, H3Z 0A4. Full name and civic address must be
included. We do not accept entries sent in bulk.
3. ELIGIBILITY
3.1 This Sweepstakes is open to Canadian residents who, at the
time of entry, have reached the age of majority according to the
law of the province or territory in which they reside. A person for
whom a publicity contest is carried out, his employee,
representative or proxy, a member of the jury and the persons
with whom they are domiciled may not enter the contest. Entries
are not transferable except to the winner's estate according to
the law of the province or territory of residence.
3.2 Entrants are eligible only for the prizes and bonuses presented
in the offer received, providing reply conditions set forth in the
offer are met.
4. AWARDING OF PRIZES
A representative of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton LLP (RCGT),
Chartered Accountants, who act as independent official agent, will
perform a series of random drawings from all entries received, in order
to create pools of numbers from which winning numbers will be drawn.
On the winner selection day, RCGT will draw the winning number(s) for
each prize from those pools. RCGT is responsible for all aspects of the
drawing process, which is undertaken in complete confidentiality. This
process does not apply to Express Cash prizes – see section 5.
5. PRIZES AND IMPORTANT DATES
The 74th National Sweepstakes holds a series of prizes, which are
partially offered, in different combinations, in each promotion. Visual
presentation, treatment, and payment options of prizes may vary in the
promotional material sent by RD. The prizes listed below may be offered
by RD as the following options: cash (as a lump sum or as a weekly,
monthly or annual annuity), car, gas allowance, trip, celebration party,
jewelry, home improvements, electronics or shopping sprees. Despite
the different options offered for each prize, and even though a person
receives many different promotions offering the same prize, in different
forms, there will be only one winner for each of the prizes. Each prize
and bonus (when offered) will be awarded in accordance with the
promotional offer holding the winning number. When merchandise
prizes are offered, RD reserves the right to substitute similar
merchandise of equal or greater value (with the approval of the
Régie the alcools, des courses et des jeux) in the event that a particular
merchandise prize is no longer available. The winners always have the
option of choosing cash over the merchandise prize.
For the following four (4) prizes below, the close date will be:
February 11, 2013 at 23:59:59 (EST) and the final electronic draw will be
held in Montreal, on February 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
• One (1) GRAND PRIZE of $250,000.00 will be awarded and may
be supplemented with an additional WINNER'S BONUS ranging
from $1.00 to $250,000.00. When a $500,000.00 prize is offered, it
will be referred to as the Super Grand Prize.
• One (1) PRESTIGE PRIZE of $37,500.00 will be awarded and may
be supplemented with an additional bonus ranging
from $1.00 to $37,500.00, when offered. When the prize offered is
greater than $37,500.00, it will be referred to as the
Prestige “Plus” Prize.
• One (1) PRESIDENT'S AWARD of $45,000.00 will be awarded.
• One (1) GOLD STAR AWARD of $25,000.00 will be awarded.
• Two (2) CELEBRATION PRIZES. There will be one (1)
Celebration Prize of $12,500.00 awarded each year. For 2011 this
prize will close on February 9, 2012 at 23:59:59 (EST) and on
February 24, 2012 the winning number will be drawn in Montreal at
11:00 a.m. For 2012 this prize will close on February 11, 2013 at
23:59:59 (EST) and on February 27, 2013 the winning number will
be drawn in Montreal at 11:00 a.m.
• Twenty-four (24) MONTHLY PAYOUT prizes of $5,000.00 each
will be awarded. On the second Tuesday of each month, one (1)
Monthly Payout prize will be awarded for entries received during
the previous month. The first draw will be held on February 8, 2011
at 11:00 a.m. in Montreal and the last draw will be held on
February 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Montreal also. (This last draw
will include eligible entries from December 2012 returned prior to
the close date of February 11, 2013 at 23:59:59 (EST)). The
Monthly Payout may be supplemented with an additional bonus
ranging from $1.00 to $1,000.00, when offered.
• Three (3) EXPRESS CASH prizes of $20,000.00 will be awarded
on each of the following dates: Series A, November 7, 2011
(closing October 12, 2011 at 23:59:59 (EDT)), Series B,
July 9, 2012 (closing June 11, 2012 at 23:59:59 (EDT)) and
Series C, March 12, 2013 (closing February 11, 2013
at 23:59:59 (EST)). Unlike for our other prizes, RCGT will pre-draw
one number from each of the three Express Cash number pools,
before the promotions for this prize go out and will keep it
confidential and in security at their office until the prize award day.
On that day, the qualifying winning number will be a returned
number that matches the one previously drawn. If the matching
number was not returned, then a random draw will take place
among all the eligible Express Cash entry numbers. This
Express Cash may, from time to time, be offered as a shared prize
whereby the same number would be given out to either 2, 3, or 4
people. Those who return their entry may have to share the
$20,000.00 prize with the other people holding the same number if
they also have returned their entry on time and if their number
matches the number held by RCGT.
6. PROBABILITY OFWINNING
Based on past sweepstakes, and as determined by statistical expertise,
an individual's average probability of winning either the Grand Prize, the

All winners will be notified in writing within 10 days of the draw date and
must return, by mail, their correct answer to a skill-testing question
involving general knowledge and allow the use of their name, city of
residence, and statements (audio or video) for promotional purposes. All
prizes will be delivered to the winners' home. The winners will be
responsible for all taxes, where applicable. If a winner fails to respond
